Should I Get Bangs?

When you’re looking to make a big change to your look, bangs might be one of the first options you consider. New hair has a way of transforming your whole face, and many women look great with bangs (Zooey Deschanel, anyone?). That being said, bangs are not for everyone, so if you’re thinking of making the snip, here are some considerations you must make.

You will need to trim your bangs every few weeks.

More maintenance goes into keeping your hair looking great when you have bangs. Not to mention, you won’t be able to see very well if you keep letting your locks grow past your brow line. When you have bangs, you will need to trim them every two or three weeks to keep them at the proper length.

You will have to figure out how to style them…

In addition, bangs may require more styling than you are used to. It may also take some trial and error to figure out how to do this successfully. You might find that whether you blow dry them, straighten them, or brush them, they just don’t look quite the way you want them to at first. No worries; you’ll figure it out eventually!

…and you will style them every day.

You’ll figure it out because you’ll be practicing every day. When you have bangs, there’s no rolling out of bed and running out the door. If you want good hair, you will need to set aside several minutes in the morning to take care of your bangs before you head out.

You may have to wash your bangs more than the rest of your hair.

Your bangs rest on what is generally the oiliest part of your body, so they tend to get dirty before the rest of your hair. Anyone who has had bangs has leaned into the sink to wash their fringe, and if you decide to make the chop, you will have to do the same.

You will need to blow dry them.

In addition, it’s unlikely that you are going to want to let your bangs air dry. Because it is shorter, they will dry more quickly than the rest of your hair, taking on your natural texture immediately. If you want smooth, tame bangs, you will have to be prepared to immediately blow dry your hair after the shower.

You will have to pick which style of bangs.

It’s not as simple as walking into our hair salon and asking for bangs. There are blunt bangs, choppy bangs, side-swept bangs, and parted bangs, not to mention the different lengths you can go for. We can help you determine the best bangs for your face shape, but it’s a good idea to look through some photos of celebrities and models with bangs to see if there is a type that speaks to you in particular.

Whether you decide you want to rock fringe or you determine it’s not for you, we’re here to support you at our hair salon in Tampa. At Serenity Salon & Spa, we would be honored to make your bang dreams come true. Contact us today to schedule an appointment!
